The collaboration between municipalities and cultural actors in Central Denmark Region is highlighted as one of the greatest strengths of European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017. That is why Central Denmark Region and the 19 municipalities have decided to continue working together in the preliminary two-year project European Region of Culture.
”One of the extraordinary things about this year is that the EU Commission and the panel, who evaluate this, looked at the regional collaboration and felt that it was one of the strongest things about our European Capital of Culture. So to see that go forward is really important and I think that there’s genuine commitment both at the politcal, administrative and cultural level to keep that collaboration going” says CEO of Aarhus 2017, Rebecca Matthews.
In Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality, the enthusiasm about the results of the culture year has been great and here they are hoping that the collaboration will contribute to more, ambitious cultural projects in the future:
”I have great expectations of the collaboration going beyond the two-year period and becoming a fixed frame that can embrace some of the events the single municipalities can’t. Like big events with an international perspective. I think this is what we should continue to work towards in the future” says Head of Culture in Ringkøbing-Skjern Kommune, Per Høgh Sørensen.
Amongst the cultural actors in the region, the expectations for the continued collaboration are big as well.
”Together we are stronger and can do more than apart. I hope that this understanding is one of the things we will gain from the new collaboration” says curator at Skovgaardsmuseet in Vibog, Anne-Mette Villumsen.

”Now is really the time to give it everything we’ve got. You would probably think we’ve already done that, but now is really the time to give it EVERYTHING and embrace all of the great collaborations that was created in 2017” says administrator at Odin Teatret in Holstebro, Per Kap Bech Jensen.
