About European Region of Culture
Read about European Region of Culture, which is a collaboration between Central Denmark Region and the 19 municipalities in Central Jutland.
What is European Region of Culture?
Rubber boots in the sand by the great waves of the North Sea, idyllic canoeing along Gudenåen, potato harvest in Samsø, art in a rainbow above Aarhus, and fishing in Limfjorden. Central Denmark Region contains many differences. We are 19 municipalities. 19 voices. 19 stories. But we have one thing in common: We love culture. In culture, we break down borders and build bridges. And that is exactly what we want to do with European Region of Culture.
Our year as European Capital of Culture has changed us. We found out that collaboration makes us stronger. That we can achieve much more if we allow ourselves to inspire each other and work together. And we have learned that our differences are a great strength we need to explore further.
Collaboration without Borders
European Region of Culture is both a name and an ambition. We want to harness all of our new experience and competencies from our year as European Capital of Culture in our quest to continue strengthening the cultural collaboration across the region. We have already come a long way, but we want to go even further.
The project is a collaboration between Central Denmark Region and the 19 municipalities that together created European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017. It is co-financed by the municipalities and Central Denmark Region.
In 2019, European Region of Culture among others arranged the regional culture festival REDISCOVER with almost 500 activities across all municipalities in the region.
Development, International Reach and Cultural Forum
The new strategy for European Region of Culture focuses on European collaboration and improvement of the development conditions of artists and cultural institutions in the region through the sharing of knowledge and learning. This will among other things happen through an annual "Cultural Forum" with participation of politicians and cultural actors from the region.
If you have any questions regarding European Region of Culture or our current activities, you are always welcome to contact the secretariat.
